Decision analysis breaks down a complicated problem into smaller pieces that can be more readily analyzed and understood. It provides a structure for analysis of possible courses of action, possible outcomes that could result from those actions, the likelihood of those outcomes, and the costs and benefits to be derived from those outcomes. This structure includes identifying:
The scope of the decision to be made
The over-arching goals and objectives of the water administration or management strategy
The key issues, stakeholders, and possible alternatives
Specific evaluation criteria and their relative importance or weight Methods to measure the performance of each alternative according to the evaluation criteria
|
|
A prioritized ranking of the alternatives illustrates how each goal contributes to the overall score.
