DBS&A works with state and local governments, water districts, and private water companies to enhance water supply, quality, and sustainability. Our staff includes hydrologists and geologists; soil and environmental scientists; civil, chemical, and environmental engineers; GIS and computer drafting specialists; and field and laboratory technicians.

Water Availability Assessments
A solid understanding of available water resources and their hydrologic framework is essential for informed decision-making. DBS&A routinely provides clients with quantitative hydrologic analyses of groundwater and surface water systems. Design studies and investigations that meet these needs, include:
- Fresh and brackish groundwater availability studies
- Deep brackish groundwater assessments
- Statistical analyses
- Groundwater basin numerical modeling
Water Supply Planning
Recent extreme drought conditions have brought the importance of water resource diversification to the forefront. DBS&A supports water supply managers and operators in identifying, acquiring, developing, and securing both fresh and brackish groundwater to meet growing demand. DBS&A’s experience includes demand and supply forecasting, evaluating impacts of climate variability, developing water management strategies, and stakeholder participation in long-range water planning studies. We regularly participate in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) process for complex development and water use projects, including water supply assessments.
Well Design and Testing
DBS&A can help optimize well designs and other supply infrastructure, obtain permitting and funding, and perform analyses, acquisition, and management of water rights, when needed, to secure a sustainable water supply. We have considerable experience with the permitting, design, construction, development, testing, and maintenance of water supply wells. Successful well installation typically includes evaluating well bore hydrogeologic data, designing production wells to maximize water quantity and quality, precise installation of complex well designs, and performing pumping tests to determine both the well and aquifer characteristics.
Our design activities incorporate state-of-the-art modeling and hydrogeologic analysis. Once the design is complete, we develop specifications, provide bidding assistance, and perform well construction oversight on water supply projects. Key services in water supply development include:
- Geophysical logging oversight and analysis
- Exploratory drilling and hydrogeologic characterization
- Aquifer testing
- Identification of production zones
- Municipal well and well field design and development
- Water rights analysis and acquisition
- Conjunctive use studies
- Construction oversight
DBS&A staff testing production capacity of a new brackish groundwater public supply well for a client in West Texas as a drought resistant option.
DBS&A has installed shallow, small-capacity wells,
exploration wells greater than 3,500 feet deep, and
high-capacity well fields serving regional water providers.
We perform complex water quality and quantity testing to optimize groundwater quality and production.
